Gotcha Game

Updated: Aug 27

And.......... its that time again for horse racing favorite game, 'Gotcha', with you host, Joe KIA [Applause]

'Welcome, welcome' says Joe KIA, we have a wonderful evening for you planned, as we will select a number of industry people or, maybe non-industry, nobodies to "Fork over''.

[APPLAUSE]

"Last week we had a record number of 'Gotchas' in the sales industry, the buyers, today, its handicappers and bettors." announces Joe KIA, with another round of applause.

'Handicappers and bettors, and I said bettors not betters' with that Joe Kia smirk shaking his head in disgust.

'We can make horseplayers believe anything, just look at the figure Fierceness received for the Travers a 111, some 20 minutes after the race' nodding his head in approval.

'We had players of all genders and sizes, wringing their hands in delight that Thorpedo Anna got a 110, like their grocery bill depends on it'.

'Gotcha' he proclaims, with that fake Hollywood smile.

Horseplayers are just drawn to all this BS and more, they want to believe, eternal optismists, they would believe Santa Claus was once a reindeer jockey too and rode Rudolph in the Grade 1 Reindeer Games handicap, on the Fox 'all about jockeys' show

Figures, especially Beyer figs, are always slanted torwards the big guns in the industry.

So you really mean to tell me Thorpedo Anna improved over 7 lenghts off last effort, most likely she improved from a 93 to a 100, about 3 and 1/2 lengths.

Handicappers believe Beyer figures were brought down from Mt Olympus by Zeus, himself. They are made by a bunch of dudes. Dudes not gods, not mathematician, dudes.

The figures are man made, what could go wrong, they can always adjust them after horses run back, right ? No harm no foul, unless you think about it from the handicappers standpoint, people are betting, buying horses and making stallions or broodmares off those numbers.

Pegasus, standing stud [fill in six figure stud fee], he ran beyers of 158 three times, and flew to victory in record time.

Very enticing to attract loaded rich guys to bring their mares.

Amazing how each of these stallions best crop is always their first one.

Gotcha.

I am more like Mikey, from the old Life cereal commercial.

I believe the proof is in my eyes seeing it and believing it.

You got fooled once already with the ballooned 110 figure for Fierceness in the Florida Derby, which was most likely 10 points too fast and if I could correct he would have run a 100,

The 100 I would project for the Travers, which lines up Anna and the rest of the field nicely, but that wouldn't be anywhere near kissing of the Repole ring with that a 111 is for the Travers.

Repole, i think down deep he means somewhat well, for himself. It's all about him, change the game......

He gets his Travers, congrats, he has a nice little horse, as Fierceness isn't very big, and rather lightly made, but he is a runner, for sure.

He stepped up, as did the filly, in a superb perfomance, I actually give Repole, Pletcher and his team a huge kudos and a job well done.

Pletcher even took the canoe out for a spin, E. G. Smith move over [Google that].

They worked on his psyche, as one person told me, Fierceness, is a timid type of horse whom likes to stand in the back of his stall. Pletcher got it, and treated him kindly in the morning, he built up his confidence. Well done, Todd, and I hope you screamed out after the race:

'GOTCHA! EVERY OTHER RACE MY ARSE'

I know Pletcher wouldn't have done that because Repole has yet to stop talking.

As an old girlfriend used to tell me: "Stop Talking" as she wanted to talk, and talk, and talk.

If she would have taken a deep breath, she could have squeezed in a 'gotcha'.

Yet, all this time you thought I was going to roast Repole, and Pletcher, I applaude them, they got me.

I do have an issue with the overblown figure, though, but I have come to expect it, and when he fails to run back to those figures as players are once again jumping on the cult of Fierceness for the future, away from New York, its my turn to say:

'Gotcha'
