New Series : Clockers Corner at Oaklawn

Week of January 6, 2019.

Speed Trap is a daily series of what's happening in the morning across the country.

Saturday at Oaklawn Park over 300 horses worked:

Tale of La Comete, trained by Dallas Stewart, is by Tale of Ekati, out of Perfect La Comete, a Charles Fipke mare, third generation family from Fipke broodmare band. Tale looks like a filly that should be followed in second or third start of her career. 5f gate work in 101.4, was best of a set for Dallas. FQLLQW Tale of La Comete

Gun Club, Steve Asmussen, Willis Horton and Winchell Thoroughbreds Trappe Shot filly, strong second in first career start at Fair Grounds. Gun Blub, a $480K purchase at the Keeneland yearling sale in 2017, was bought back by connections for $440K at the Fasig Tipton Maryland 2yo in training sale. Filly worked a 10.2 and she can be truly appreciated by watching her breeze. Trappe Shot stands for $7,500 and his 2yo fillies averaged $16,000 in 2018. Her pedigree is strong, as she is a half to Mr. Palmer, a ten time winner of $641,693 and Conspiracy, a winner of $324,409 in his career. the 2nd dam of Hot Novel, whom was dam of Behrens, strong family in the 2nd dam that included multiple Graded Stakes winners.

Gun Club worked in 102 out 6fs for Asmussen with an allowance horse on January 6. FQLLQW Gun Club

William B. Van Meter, not a familiar name to some, but he comes from a very good horseman family, his father Tom Van Meter, from veterinarian, to owner and breeder, to consignor and buyer, a genuine passionate man about the game. Tom has been involved in selling over 150 graded stakes winners—including 55+ Grade 1 performers—and 72 or more horses that realized one million dollars or more in the auction ring. William has horsemanship in his blood.

William's B P Rocket, owned and bred by Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, impressed in his maiden win on Nov 9, after a troubled trip in debut at Keeneland on October 13. three-year-old Curlin colt, out of Rocket Maker, by Empire Maker, who was $485K two-year-old in training purchase at OBS. I recall watching Rocket Maker for Harris Training Farm consigning the daughter of Trip, multiple Stakes winning mare for Shug McGaughey earning over $880K in her career.

B P Rocket has all the credentials to be a top three-year-old and he is training like one to FQLLQW off 101.40 on January 6 at Oaklawn. FQLLQW B P Rocket
